 How to get the best out of me:

 Make-up application is art.  

 Art is what happens when the artist is inspired.

  Email me your theme (genre), clothing - a photo of your model or link to your models portfolios - give me a good hint of the make-up you envision - or email me a photo of make-up,

 No step by step written techniques necessary.

 This is my inspiration!

 Then allow me some leeway to make it my own (add my own twist), rather than copy exactly what you have given me.

 

 

Matric Dances &Non-Bridal Events:

In the Studio:

Make-up:      

Make-up trial (optional) -2 hours:         R200

Make-up on the day without strip lashes -1 hour:  R200

Make-up on the day with strip lashes -1 hour:         R300

Children under 10 years – 30 miniutes:            R50

Men: R50 pp -30 mins

 

Hair:    

Hair trial (optional) -2 hours:         R200

Shoulder length and longer:        R300 per person

Shoulder length and shorter:        R150 per person

      

Curls or flat ironing of clean hair (I don’t wash hair) - Duration 1 hour for curls, 2 hours for curls & up style

 

Please arrange for a large table, high chair facing natural or bright artificial light and electricity plug points

 

Hillcrest & Upper Highway area:

 Same as above, plus a travel fee of R50.

 Please arrange for a large table and a bar stool facing natural or bright artificial light.

 

 Further:

 Same as above, plus a travel fee of R2 per km and return toll fees

 Photo Shoots:

If you credit me or watermark the photos, please use my business name "MakeUp4Art", rather than "Dee Altenburger". I advertise as MakeUp4Art.

Please email me images of the models outfits if you can before the shoot.

Please discuss make-up and hair before the shoot, so I know what to bring.

Remember to include dates and times in emails.

Please book well in advance.

Pre - Photo Shoot:

• Please email me a brief  minimum 7 days before the shoot, or many weeks in advance if I must order body paint etc-

• Email is better preferred so I can refer to it whenever necessary.

• I need more Asians, Orientals, Coloreds and Ethnic Africans and bride models in my portfolio

Brief me in an email with the following info: 

• How many models - Male, female, Caucasian, African, Asian

• Photos of models or links to their portfolios.

• Discuss make-up and hair for each model before the shoot, so I know what to bring.

• Photos for inspiration, or brief description of eye and lip colours and hair styles wanted.

• Address and directions (African street names). Please no maps, I am terrible with maps.

• Schedule:

                 1   Arrival time for make-up artist

                 2   Time allocated for make-up and hair per model:

                                            Make-up duration: 1 hour per face

                                            Hair duration:           30 minutes for gel

                                                                               30 minutes for up style no curls or straightening

                                                                               1 hour for curls only

                                                                               1 hour for hair straightening only

                                                                               2 hours for curls or straightening & up style

                                                                              Model MUST have clean hair (I don’t wash hair) 

                   3   Time for wardrobe: Models get dressed       

                 4   Time shooting starts

                 5   Time shooting ends.

                        

 Photo Shoot:

If the shoot is in your studio, please arrange for a large table and a bar stool facing lots of bright natural or bright artificial light, near a plug point if you want me to do hair. Otherwise if you do not have full natural light, table and high chair, then please send your models to my home studio instead where I have everything set up for make-up and hair.

 
 Post - Photo Shoot:

Images for my portfolio:

• Please email images greater than 3mb or let me have images on CD:

• 1 x folder with minimum 10 images in A3 print size highest resolution

• 1 x folder with minimum 10 images in web size highest resolution

• Colour only, no black & white or sepia.

• Facial images not too tight – I love hands in the photos

• No full body - half body is fine – Preferably no nudity

• Unframed

• Images post edited by the photographer if the models skin has blemishes, acne or scars that I was not able to hide with make-up (sometimes I cannot hide everything).

 

Togs please remind the Mods:

Models I love you all, but paleeez, don't light up a ciggie in my face, while I am busy doing your hair or make-up!!! I gave up smoking in 2010, and now to me the smell of it is worse than what it ever was.

 

If we are working on a tight schedule, please stress to your models to arrive on time. If one person is late then everyone is late, then the shoot starts late too.  

 

If I am required to do the hair, please stress that their hair should be squeaky clean - I'll see by her roots if she came straight from a smoky club.

 

If I am not required to do hair, please remind models to arrive with hair already done, if you have not worked time for it into the schedule beforehand.

 

Please remind models to arrive with nails clean or newly painted unless you the tog has already worked that into the schedule.

 
 Post Editing Images:

More often than not, post editing is essential. Unfortunately even the best make-up artist can hide only so many skin sins, she is no magician.

 

The model/ client needs the make-up artist just as much as she needs the photographer, as the two work hand in hand - what the make-up artist cannot hide, the photographer can hide - only where necessary.

 

Good post editing means getting the balance right, not too much airbrushing, and not too little – only where the face, neck and body really need it. 

 

At the bottom of this page are three examples of near perfect composition, saturation, exposure and post editing, etc...

Expo's & Demo's,

 Suggestion:

A printed program, (even one A5 page), handed to your patrons at the door, is the best way to let them know that there will be a "Make-up demonstration at 11am upstairs in the Oval Room", or to advertise any other demo.

Your patrons will not hear any important messages above all the music and noise if you rely only on your MC to announce certain happenings... unless your MC turns the music off and speaks loudly...

...Even then the written word has more impact
